Times They Be A Changin
Big changes are on the horizon for the City of Roseville. Roseville City Council just approved last Tuesday in a unanimous vote to rezone the Sacred Heart Church to make way for a new Storage Center to be built by My Space.
In 2017 the Archdiocese of Detroit decided to close the church and was later sold for $750,000 to Gratiot Sta, LLC according to assessing records. There have been mixed feeling from many people who have attended the church over the years, which peaked in popularity in the early 1960's with more than 3,000 family attendees and has been an icon in it's location on the east side of Gratiot Avenue.
The 9 million dollar development will have some new and some old. The new includes a 100,000+ square foot storage facility with over 7,000 square feet of retail which could attract small businesses and even a restaurant according to developers. The old to include the church's current bell tower (if able to be salvaged) and bell to be incorporated into the new design, a very nice gesture on behalf of the developers, which is shown above.
All in all this is a nice move for Roseville who's looking to revitalize itself and move towards a "downtown" area and this just might be the jump-start it needs. My Space just completed a new storage facility at Stephens and Gratiot in Eastpointe on the location of the old Colonial Dodge dealership, which just opened a few weeks ago. Only time will tell if the demand for self-storage will continue on its super high demand from consumers or slowly taper off.
